What to see: a walk through history

The Old Town

Wandering through the old town is the best way to experience Conil’s authentic seaside charm. Whitewashed houses, narrow streets decorated with bougainvillea, geraniums and carnations, hidden patios and a rich history shaped by its Moorish past. Don’t miss the fishermen’s quarter (Barrio de los Pescadores), Santa Catalina Church, or the Guzmán Tower (Torre de Guzmán). Be sure to walk through the ancient city gates: Puerta de la Villa and the famous Puerta de “Caí” (Puerta de Cádiz)—magical spots for capturing charming photos.

Culture & traditions

Visit the Museo de Raíces Conileñas, an ethnographic museum dedicated to preserving the traditions and customs of Conil de la Frontera. It’s an ideal place to understand the history of fishing on the Costa de la Luz.

El barrio de las flores

Is one of the most charming areas of Conil’s old town. Its narrow, maze-like streets — named after flowers such as Jasmine, Geranium or Azalea — are filled with colourful pots, flower-filled patios and traditional Andalusian white houses that reflect the town’s true seaside essence.

Beaches and coves in Conil

Urban beaches

Los Bateles and La Fontanilla. Located next to the historic centre and the promenade, these beaches stand out for their fine golden sand, clean waters and large size. They are ideal for those looking for comfort, services and proximity to restaurants and beach bars.
Thanks to their wide open spaces, even during peak season you can still enjoy the sun without feeling crowded. They are perfect for swimming, beach sports or simply enjoying spectacular Atlantic sunsets.

.

Calas de Roche

A series of small rocky coves hidden beneath reddish cliffs and Mediterranean vegetation. These coves are known for their crystal-clear waters and wild natural beauty.
They are the perfect place to disconnect, listen to the sound of the sea and enjoy unforgettable sunsets. They are also especially sheltered when the Levante wind blows, making them a great alternative to urban beaches on windy days (except Cala del Aceite, which is usually more exposed due to its orientation).

Gastronomy: the taste of the Almadraba

Bluefin tuna

Along the entire Cádiz coast, bluefin tuna is the true king of the table. Caught during the season using the ancient almadraba method, it stands out for its exceptional quality and intense flavour, making it the star of local cuisine. In May, local restaurants celebrate it with special tasting routes. One of the best places to try it is Francisco la Fontanilla, right on the beach — a true “sea-to-table” experience.

Tapas experience

Imagine stepping out of your apartment at sunset and wandering through the streets of Conil to go for tapas: crispy fried fish, Iberian ham, freshly made fritters and a refreshing tinto de verano. Within just a few steps, you’ll reach some of the best bars in town, full of lively atmosphere and authentic Cádiz flavours. Your stay won’t just be about relaxing… it will also be a feast for your senses. If you’re a beer lover cervecería Esparte offers its own craft beer.

Sweet & savoury traditions

Start your day with traditional churros from churrería La Chana, ear Puerta de la Villa — perfect to take away and enjoy anywhere.
For lunch, try a classic cartucho of fried fish from Freiduría Zapola. Fresh fish, great gazpacho and a fun local tradition: while you wait, they’ll often offer you a beer… sometimes more than one!
